Bank impersonation and 'safe account' scams
Scammers pose as your bank's fraud team, by SMS, email or phone, and push you to log in on a fake page, share a code or move money to a 'safe account'.

Check a suspicious message now →Warning signs
- A call or text that creates panic about a suspicious payment or blocked account.
- Any request for your PIN, full card number, online-banking password or one-time code.
- Being told to move money to a 'safe account' or to install a remote-access app.
- A caller who already knows your name and some details. This is easy for criminals to obtain and proves nothing.
- A link to a login page that you did not reach by typing the bank's official address.
What to do
- Hang up. Call the number printed on your card or on the bank's official website.
- Never share codes. Your bank will never ask for them.
- Log in only through the official app or by typing the address yourself.
- Paste any suspicious text into HackFraud to check it.
If you already clicked or paid
- Call your bank immediately and ask to block cards and online access.
- If money moved, ask for a recall and report it to the police.
- Change online-banking and email passwords from a clean device.
Report it: in Greece, contact the Cyber Crime Division (cyber.gr, tel. 11188). Elsewhere, contact your local police and your bank.
Frequently asked questions
Will my bank ever ask for my one-time code?
No. A one-time code authorises a payment or login, and no genuine bank employee needs it from you.
What is a safe account scam?
A caller claims your money is at risk and tells you to transfer it to a 'safe account'. The account belongs to the scammer.
